Archeological trails
Ancient corridors connect the North to the South. The sensational discovery of the “man from the Tiesenjoch” has sparked the search for traces of human activity in high altitude regions; however long before “Ötzi,” humans have inhabited the area. Recent scientific discoveries give evidence of this.
In a cross-border project, organizational partners in North and South Tyrol have developed 17 archeological trail suggestions and a collection of information titled, “Following the footsteps of the Iceman.” Detailed route information, elevation profile, literature tips, colored photos, and local knowledge concerning nature and culture can be found within.

This trail is marked with an “A” for archeological trail and with the stylized axe of the Iceman. The archeological finds are detailed in three languages (E, D, I) on copper posts. These provide descriptions of natural and cultural highlights along the way.
The Ötz Valley historic trail connects the Ötz valley: from Haiming to Obergurgl and Vent.
An ongoing project plans to not only review and update information on the copper posts but also extend the network.
A visit to the Ötzi village is well worth your time!
