Köfler (high alpine pasture) waal trail
The “Köfler Jochwaal” is situated at about 2100m in the Fundus valley above Umhausen. It counts as one of the highest and oldest irrigation ditches in Tyrol.
This unique “waal” was constructed back in the middle of the 15th century and taps the glacial waters of the Ploder glacier for the irrigation of the meadows and fields around Köfels. Abandoned in 1860, the ditch and its accompanying path were restored in 2005. Today, the trail is a popular high alpine hiking destination for locals and tourists alike.
