ÖTZTAL NATURE PARK covers an area of around 508 km². A total of seven nature reserves form a network of particularly close-to-nature areas. In doing so, the various nature reserve categories come into play. The range spans from simple natural monuments to the European protected Natura 2000 area.

In addition to conservation, recreation and regional development, research and environmental education are fundamental pillars in the nature park work. Scientific research has a long tradition in Ötztal. Thus e.g. Lake Piburg or Rotmoostal in Obergurgl are among the best studied natural areas in the Central Alps.

This extensive knowledge and nature as a teacher just in front of the school are the basis for our environmental education programme “ÖTZTAL NATURE PARK schools”. 10 excursion offers from the valley all the way up to the Hohe Mut in Obergurgl are available.

Note: Tirolean nature park environmental education offers The environmental education promotes the sensitivity and appreciative respect of young people in favour of nature. The offer of the Tirolean nature parks aims to serve as a resourceful support when the forest or alpine pasture becomes the classroom.
