The Stuiben waterfall near Umhausen is the highest one in Tyrol. The Horlach creek, which originates in the Niederthai, plunges over 150 meters in two cascades. This impressive natural wonder dates back to the rockslide of Köfels that blocked the exit of the Horlach valley 8,700 years ago. On the northern ridge of Mount Taufer, the Horlach Creek found a new path down. The spray, also called “Stuiben” in the local dialect, has given the waterfall its name. Seven springs in the Stubai alps feed the waterfall. Up to 2,000 liters of water per second plunge down the cliff on some days. Make sure you visit this natural wonder - especially on hot summer days.

Hiking suggestion: The Stuiben waterfall is accessible via a wide, family-friendly trail. The bottom of the waterfall is about a 30 min walk from the parking lot of the Ötzidorf. Several platforms alongside the waterfall bring you up close to experience the thunderous falling water. The trail leads to the restaurant “Stuibenfall” takes about 50 min.
